How do I locate my water main shutoff?

Look for a valve near the front of your home where the main water line enters, typically in the basement, crawl space, garage, or near the water heater. In warmer climates it may be outside near the street. The valve is usually a round wheel or lever handle. Test it to make sure it works before you need it in an emergency. Label it clearly.
