How do I fix a loose toilet handle?

A loose toilet handle is usually caused by a nut inside the tank that has come loose. Remove the tank lid and locate the nut on the inside of the handle mechanism. Tighten it with pliers while holding the handle steady on the outside. If the handle still feels loose or the threads are stripped, replace the entire flush handle assembly, which costs about 10 dollars at any hardware store.
